Session 12

Who Are You Becoming?

From 1 Peter: A 20-Day Devotional

Has anyone ever said to you, “The older you get, the more you look like your dad?” We don’t always like to hear it, but it’s true. It’s in our DNA. The older we get, the more we resemble our parents. If you’re especially close to your parents, you might even start to act like them.

The same is true when it comes to our relationship with our Heavenly Father. Peter assures the church that the closer we are to the Lord, the more likely we are to look like Him. When we look like God, we act like God. When we act like God, we love like God.

Loving others is God’s plan for each of us. We are instructed to “love one another deeply from the heart” (1 Peter 1:22). God loved us so much He sent Jesus to die for us even though we didn’t deserve it. We are called to love others unconditionally, just like God loves us.

The way God loves us is what makes us want to do what He says. When we think of God’s love for us we are more likely to express His love to others.

Reflect:

  • Who do you see when you look in the mirror? What’s one way you’re reflecting your Heavenly Father?
  • How has God shown His love for you this week?
  • What’s one way you can show God’s love to someone today?
