God Keeps His Promises

From 2 Peter: An 8-Day Devotional

Have you ever prayed for something with such an immediate need, only to feel like you waited forever to see the answer? Things don’t happen when we expect them to. We might experience doubt and even try to control things on our own when we don’t see God at work in our time frame.

Peter tells us that the passing of time is very different for God. God is not limited by hours in a day or by the number of days in a year. 2 Peter 3:8 says that to God, “A day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years is like a day.” Peter goes on to say that God, “is not slow in keeping his promise as some understand slowness.” It may seem like time is going by slowly and our situation isn’t changing, but in reality, God may be doing something that we simply can’t see from our human perspective.

God tells us that He is patient with us, wanting every one of us to know Him (2 Peter 3:9). In moments when we feel like God is not responding to our circumstances, He may be showing His patience with the people He so dearly loves. God’s ultimate goal is for us to know Him, not necessarily to know the answer to our prayer. God will always keep His promises in His perfect, patient timeline.
