Session 6

Will this season ever end?

From Ecclesiastes: A 20-Day Devotional

Ever noticed how the seasons of the year are similar to the seasons in our lives? Summer flies by while winter lasts forever. In our lives, the good times pass quickly while difficult periods seem to linger. While no one likes to experience hard times, they are opportunities to grow.

Solomon was the richest and wisest man who ever lived and he still faced incredible highs and lows. In Ecclesiastes 3:1-4 he wrote, “There is a time for everything...a time to weep and a time to laugh, a time to mourn and a time to dance.” He knew that every situation, whether good or bad, had a purpose. We can be confident that even through times that seem to contradict God’s plan, God is working in and through them.

Romans 8:28 says, “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.” If the Lord is actively working in our lives, why aren’t our lives trouble-free? While the Lord cares about our circumstances, He cares more about our character and the people we become. He wants us to become more like His Son, Jesus, and draw closer to Him during hard times. Tough seasons allow our faith to grow.

Tough seasons allow our faith to grow.

So, take heart if you are going through a difficult period. God can take the messiest situation and make it beautiful in His time. We just have to trust Him and His plan.

Reflect:

  • When you encounter a tough season how do you normally respond?
  • Are you currently going through a season in which you need to trust God’s plan?
  • What is one thing you need to remember to trust that God will work your situation for His good in His time?
