Session 5

Why your voice matters

From How To Be A Better Leader: A 7-Day Devotional

Great leaders raise up great leaders. Leaders have to be willing to take risks and to identify the next wave of leaders to continue the success. Moses was able to identify Caleb and Joshua.

Moses believed in Caleb and Joshua by sending them initially to scout out the land. The others came back afraid and doubting God’s promises. Caleb and Joshua believed God would fulfill His promises.

Great leaders raise up great leaders.

How would the story have changed if Moses didn’t stand by Joshua and Caleb? It is much more difficult to stand tall in the face of adversity when the respected voices in our lives cast doubt.

Who are the Calebs and Joshuas in our lives? As parents or mentors, we have youth in our lives whom we are able to encourage and challenge to do great things. We can also encourage our friends and peers in their lives.

We can remind them of who God is and encourage them to trust Him in their situation. We can remind them of who they are in Jesus and encourage them to live in that truth and be bold in what He is calling them to do.

Caleb and Joshua had voices all around them sharing doubt and disobedience. So many people in our lives today are surrounded with the same messages. It’s up to us to provide the voice of encouragement and obedience.

Reflect:

  • How would those around you describe the message you speak into their lives?
  • Who is one person you know needs encouragement? What is one way you can encourage him/her today?
