Session 6

Is anyone listening?

From Jeremiah: A 33-Day Devotional

Read

Jeremiah 6

Do you ever find yourself in situations where you have something important to say but no one is willing to listen? As Christ followers we all feel the urge and responsibility to share God’s truth, but sometimes it seems like no one wants to hear it.

Jeremiah the prophet encountered a similar situation when the people in his community were unwilling to listen to a warning from God. God had cautioned that disaster and destruction were coming and the people needed to flee from Jerusalem. But the people refused to listen (Jeremiah 6:10).

Jeremiah’s message was not popular, because it addressed people’s sin and called them to change. The risk of offending people did not keep Jeremiah from speaking up. He knew that no matter how hard the truth is to hear, avoiding the truth does not change its validity. Jeremiah knew God’s words were coming from a God who only wanted to protect and prosper them.

Like Jeremiah, we, as Christians, have been chosen and called by God to deliver a message to the people around us. The message that Jesus died for our sin will not always be popular, but that does not change its authenticity. Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth and the life.  No one comes to the Father except through me” (John 14:6). Our message is one of good news, truth, hope and life. So, even when you find yourself asking, “Is anyone listening?,” keep sharing your story and the good news of being saved by grace through faith in Jesus.

Reflect:

  • Is there anything you’ve felt God urging you to say to someone, but you’ve been to scared to speak up? What is it?
  • Is there anyone in your life that you need to share the good news of Jesus with this week?
