Session 1

God wants to be known

From NewSpring at Home: A Study on Colossians

Scripture

“Now I rejoice in my sufferings for your sake, and in my flesh I am filling up what is lacking in Christ’s afflictions for the sake of his body, that is, the church, of which I became a minister according to the stewardship from God that was given to me for you, to make the word of God fully known,” - Colossians 1:24-25

Observation

The mystery of God is revealed through Jesus’ life. God made himself known to us through His Son. And His Son, Jesus, made a way for us to know God as well.

What a privilege to know God and to share this good news with the world! That’s why Paul says he is proud to suffer for the sake of Christ. Preaching and teaching landed Paul in jail, got him shipwrecked, and nearly killed on multiple occasions. But to experience God’s supernatural partnership and to see people come to know Jesus fully — it was worth every minute of suffering.

As part of the Church, we are carrying on the work Paul and others began. We get to know God and get to take this good news to the ends of the earth. The love and hope we have in Christ are available to everyone!

Application

  • Who do you know who needs to hear about Jesus and the hope He offers?
  • What are some ways you can show that person Jesus’ love and encourage them with the Gospel?

Prayer

God, thank You for sending Jesus as the ultimate sacrifice for our sins. Thank You for loving us so deeply and intimately. Continue to reveal Your glory to me, so I may experience more of You. Give me opportunities to love and share Your Gospel with those around me. You are so good and so generous to share your wisdom with me!
