Session 1

What happens when God’s Word dwells in us

From NewSpring at Home: A Study on Colossians

Scripture

“Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God.” - ‭‭Colossians‬ ‭3:16‬

Observation

Letting God’s Word dwell in us means we spend time reading Scripture, memorizing it, and letting it change our hearts, words, and behaviors. Doing that impacts three areas of our lives: what we teach, how we counsel, and the way we worship God.

When we share what God is teaching us through Scripture, God can use our story to teach others. When someone needs advice or when we ourselves need guidance, we can look to the Bible for wise counsel. When we read God’s Word and discover His character, we worship with a deeper understanding of the One who created us.

Letting God’s Word fill our hearts and minds changes us. Psalm 19 says the Bible revives our souls, makes us wise, brings joy, and instructs us how to live (Psalm 19:7-11). God wants to bless us through His Word. We receive that blessing as we let Scripture fill our lives.

Application

  • What is one step you can take to let God’s Word dwell in you?

Prayer
