Session 1

Who are you sharing your life with?

From NewSpring at Home: A Study on Colossians

Scripture

“...These are the only men of the circumcision among my fellow workers for the kingdom of God, and they have been a comfort to me. Epaphras, who is one of you, a servant of Christ Jesus, greets you, always struggling on your behalf in his prayers, that you may stand mature and fully assured in all the will of God.” - Colossians 4:11-12

Observation

From encouragers to informants, prayer warriors to hosts of in-home churches, Paul names nine different people who play a vital role in his life and ministry. Paul knew he could not do what God called him to do alone, and neither can we.

While we may not be planting churches or traveling missionaries, sharing our lives as we share the Gospel is just as important for us as it was for Paul.

How do we get this group of people, as Paul had? It all starts with surrender. As we surrender our lives and our will to God, we can ask Him to open our eyes to see the people we can do life and ministry with.

That doesn’t mean we hide at home and hope they come to the door with a sign that says, “I’m the person you prayed for!” (But that would be amazing!) Instead, we get out and get involved.

Meet the neighbors. Open up to people around you. Join a serving team at church. But, most of all, be expectant that the Lord will honor your heart to serve Him.

Application

  • Who is the person (or people) God put in your mind as you read this passage?
  • Who do you feel God prompting you to let into your life and do ministry with?

Prayer

Father, I know I can’t go through life alone. I need You, and I need Your people. Please open my eyes and bring the people You want me to do life with. Thank You for the truth that You don’t want me to do life and ministry alone.
