Session 1

You can trust God’s promises

From Preparing Your Heart to Go: A 7-Day Devotional for NewSpring Mission Trips
Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go. — Joshua 1:9

Leaving your home and routine can be unsettling. Entering a new culture with new people challenges our self-confidence. Whether you are nervous about traveling, sharing the Gospel, or being with a group of new people, remember: You are not heading into this trip alone. God promises to be with you every step of the way.

Proverbs 3:26 says, ”the Lord will be your confidence and will keep your foot from being caught.” Fear, insecurity, anxiety, and circumstances cannot stop us if we look to Jesus to be our strength. His Spirit gives us the right words for any conversation. He shows us how to love and serve in any culture. We can face every fear knowing that Jesus is with us. 1 John 4:4 says, “the One who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world.” The Holy Spirit in you is more powerful than Satan or any lies he sends your way.

Jesus chose you for this opportunity. He created you, pursued you, saved you, and sent you. God’s message to Joshua is the same message He gives to you, “Be strong and courageous... the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”
