Session 22

Overcoming overwhelming obstacles

From 1 Samuel: A 6-Week Devotional

Did you know that you are the owner of a unique tool belt? It might not be an actual tool belt, but God has given each of us a unique set of gifts and abilities to do what He has called us to do.

Sometimes God calls us to do big things, just like He called David to slay Goliath. Your big thing probably is not slaying a giant. But, it might be a big project at work, a hard class in school, or having a hard conversation and working on a relationship that needs healing. While God never promises that those things will be easy, He does promise us He has equipped us for those battles.

God never promises things will be easy, but He always equips us for the battles.

After David tries on the King’s armor, he wisely realizes he has to be who God has made him to be and use what God has given him to use. He was not a trained soldier, but a shepherd. He wasn't skilled in sword fighting, but he was lethal with a sling and a stone.

David defeated Goliath by trusting in the Lord and being true to who he was. Whatever giants you’re facing today, know that, just like David, God has already given you everything you need to win.

Reflect:

  • Have you ever felt unprepared for a battle you were facing?
  • Is there anything you are facing right now that you can ask God to give you peace about how He has prepared you?
  • What are some of the unique tools God has put in your tool belt? How can you use them to face your battle?
