Session 26

Let God fight for you

From 2 Chronicles: A 28-Day Devotional

We all face battles — a rebellious teen, joblessness, sexual sin. Everyone’s battle looks different, but the one thing we share is a God who wants to fight for us!

In 2 Chronicles 20, King Jehoshaphat knew Judah didn’t stand a chance against their enemies but realized it ultimately wasn’t his battle to fight. It was God’s. Jehoshaphat shows us four ways to let God fight for us.

1. Ask for help.

“ The people of Judah came together to seek help from the Lord; indeed, they came from every town in Judah to seek him” (2 Chronicles 20:4).

2. Pursue God’s interests, not our own (2 Chronicles 20:6-9).

3. Realize that the battle is not ours.

“Our God, will you not judge them? For we have no power to face this vast army that is attacking us. We do not know what to do, but our eyes are on you” (2 Chronicles 20:12).

4. Recognize our limitations and weakness and allow God’s strength to work through us.

“...Have faith in the Lord your God and you will be upheld; have faith in his prophets and you will be successful” (2 Chronicles 20:20).

God destroyed Judah’s enemies while they never had to lift a sword. Just as God fought for Judah, let Him fight for you! Maybe that looks like asking God to bring your rebellious teen a friend who loves Jesus and will help guide her back to Him. Perhaps, it looks like trusting God to provide the right job for you and trusting Him to provide for your needs while you wait. Or maybe, it looks like asking God to help you pursue His best for you when you are tempted sexually. Whatever battle you are facing, know that you are not alone. God wants to fight for you.

Reflect:

  • What is one battle in your life that you need to let the Lord fight for you?
  • What is holding you back from giving it to Jesus to fight?
  • What is one step you can take today to let Him fight for you?
